Casino Game Development Cost in 2026: A Line-by-Line Slot Budget
“How much does a slot cost?” is the first question in almost every enquiry we receive, and the honest answer is a range that spans a factor of ten. The reason is not studio greed; it is that “a slot” can mean a reskin of proven maths with stock symbols, or an original title with a custom math model, rigged characters, an orchestral soundtrack and certification in three jurisdictions. This article breaks a casino game development budget into its parts so the range stops being mysterious.
Figures below are market ranges we see in 2026 across European and CIS studios, in US dollars. They are for orientation; every real quote depends on scope.
The seven cost lines of a slot
1. Concept and game design document — $1,500 to $6,000
The fantasy, format, features and maths targets written into a document the team can build against. Cheap relative to everything after it, and the line most often skipped by first-time clients — which is how budgets double later.
2. Mathematics — $4,000 to $20,000
Reel strips, paytable, feature logic, simulation across billions of spins and the PAR sheet for the lab. A standard 5×3 free-spins game sits at the lower end; a game with cascades, progressive multipliers and three bet modes at the top. Reusing an existing, certified model for a reskin drops this line to a few hundred dollars of verification.
3. Art — $8,000 to $45,000
The widest range, because it is a list, not a task: background(s), 10–13 symbols, UI kit, logo, big-win and feature screens, marketing key art. Illustration style matters most — painted 2D characters cost three to four times what flat vector symbols cost. A pure reskin with stock UI can be done under $8,000; a character-driven original with two feature backgrounds is closer to $30,000–45,000.
4. Animation — $5,000 to $30,000
Symbol win animations, character rigs (Spine or similar), reel effects, big-win sequences, feature intros and outros, UI transitions. Priced by the list in the design document; a set with two animated characters and a full big-win sequence is easily $20,000.
5. Sound — $2,000 to $12,000
A music bed per state (base, feature, big win), 40–80 sound effects, anticipation logic. Licensed library music sits at the bottom; an original adaptive score with layered stems at the top.
6. Development — $12,000 to $60,000
The HTML5 client (PixiJS or an in-house engine), the integration with the platform or RGS, server-side logic where the platform requires it, QA across devices, and the certification builds. Platform matters: on a pre-computed RGS such as Stake Engine the server side is the platform’s, which trims this line; on a custom aggregator integration it grows.
7. Certification and compliance — $0 to $25,000
Zero for a platform with its own review process and no jurisdictional requirement; $3,000–8,000 per jurisdiction for an RNG and RTP audit through a lab such as GLI, BMM or iTech Labs; more when the game targets several regulated markets at once and each demands its own report.
Three typical budgets
| Project | What it includes | Range | Timeline |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reskin | Proven maths, new theme and symbols, stock UI, library sound | $15,000–30,000 | 6–10 weeks |
| Original mid-scope slot | Custom maths, painted symbols, one feature, original sound, one platform | $45,000–90,000 | 4–6 months |
| Flagship title | Custom maths with multiple bet modes, rigged characters, full animation set, adaptive score, certification in 2+ jurisdictions | $110,000–200,000+ | 7–12 months |
What moves the price most
- Art style. Painted characters versus flat symbols is the biggest single swing.
- Number of features and bet modes. Each one is maths, art, animation, sound and QA.
- Platform count. Every additional integration is development plus a certification build.
- Revisions. Scope changes after art starts are the classic budget killer; the design document exists to prevent them.
- Who owns what. Full IP transfer costs more than a licence; exclusivity windows cost more than shared distribution.
How to get a real quote instead of a range
Send the one-page version of the design document — fantasy line, format, RTP and volatility targets, features in one sentence each, platform, what already exists. With that page a studio can quote within a week. Without it you get the range you just read. Our own formats are described under process and terms: fixed-scope quotes for deliverables, milestone payments for full games, monthly billing for a dedicated team — and the brief itself is something we help write.
